Time will be determined as the day gets closer (when they release time availability).  We are planning a time approximately 3:00pm.

The untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman with stunning black wings, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army of humans threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal – an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the king of the humans and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom – and to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.

Mik’s Hidden Hearts Alliance is a 501c3 charity dedicated to bringing positive encouragement to homebound and hospitalized teens who suffer from Dysautonomia and other life-changing chronic illnesses.

In Mik’s Words: Too often we teens with Dysautonomia and other chronic illnesses fall into the trap of frequent doctor’s visits, hospitalizations, therapies, etc etc. In between all of those, well.. mostly, we just feel quite simply – sick! I know we at Mik’s Hidden Hearts Alliance can’t change how people physically feel (wish I could), but I know we all together can make each other feel better emotionally. Socials are a great opportunity to get out of your day-to-day medical routine and just have FUN!

Which leads me to do the wrap up of our December social – Christmas and Keeno Potluck Party. We all had an absolute blast! It was a fun evening of playing Keeno (think Bingo but with playing cards) where everyone went home with a prize and savoring all the tasty treats, appetizers and soups everyone brought for the potluck.

Seeing a bunch of smiling faces was so awesome and we were exceptionally happy that several of the hidden teens and their families in the area were feeling up to coming out. This was a perfect way to start the holiday season right!20131215-165313.jpg

Make sure to join us for our next monthly social in Houston – fun for all of our chronically-ill hidden teens!:

Join us Thursday, January 16th, 1 – 3:30pm, at Glazed Over Ceramics Studio for a creative, fun activity making fused glass! You’ll create a beautiful piece of glass by laying out your design of glass chips on a glass plate. It is later fused and shaped. The studio also offers ceramics that can be painted, but the glass is really fun and unique. No special glass skills needed!

Glazed Over is waiving the table fee for our MHHA group. Everyone will select and pay for their own projects. (MHHA will offset the cost of each teens’ purchase by $10. ) Items range from $18 – $60, with the average being about $25. Your item will be fused and be ready for pick up about 10 days later.

If you are able to, please bring a plate of appetizers or snacks for everyone enjoy. Glazed over sells some refrigerated drinks or bring your own.

Please RSVP to as soon as possible, so we can make sure enough tables are set up. This is really fun for everyone!

ImageWe have received several messages asking how you can help with our Hope Kits, which are sent to homebound chronically ill teens all over the United States.

One of our biggest needs right now is gift cards ($10 – $20) that we like to include in each Hope Kit.  One of the most preferred giftcards is Amazon or Walmart, however, any and all are appreciated!  If you would like to donate a gift card, please contact us here for mailing / pick up arrangements.

If you would like to make a general donation to help towards the cost of Hope Kits and shipping, you can donate here:  MHHA Donate

Have a business product you would like us to consider to add to our Hope Kits?  We would love to hear from you!  Please send us your business name and production information here.  Please include if your product will be donated or offered at a reduced rate.  All businesses who contribute to our Hope Kits will be recognized on our website and Facebook page.

Our Hope Kit recipients LOVE receiving their surprise Hope Kit in the mail!  We thank you for helping us shine the light on teens who live a hidden life with a chronic illness.

Join us tomorrow for casual coffee chat time at Panera Bread at LaCenterra in Katy, Tx. 1:30-3:00pm. Mik will be chatting with our teens and Keri will be chatting with our caregivers. Hope to see you there!

To add on to my popular post 6 Things (chronically ill) Teens should do this Summer, I wanted to add on to my suggestion of checking out free events in your area.

Look at your local library summer schedule and you may be pleasantly surprised to see they have some great events planned for teens (bonus – they are INSIDE!  Avoid the heat!)

For example, we are in the Houston, Texas area and our local library is hosting the following fun class every Monday afternoon.

Let’s try to gather our fellow hidden teens and join in at these free events.  Let us know if you plan on attending one in your community and hopefully help you link up to others in your area.

And, as always, when participating at various events, use your best judgement that works for YOU.  Is everyone standing to play a game?  Modify it and make sure you sit down.  Whatever is your concerns or issues with your illness can be integrated in whatever you would like to participate in.

Teens Travel Underhill…

This Monday at 3:30 the teens are traveling through the world of Fairy Tales.  Go on a Scavenger Hunt to Grandmother’s house.  Participate in sword fighting and an archery contest.  Play a life sized chess match.  As always snacks will be provided and teens 12-18 are welcome.
